PIW - Botanical Beach Pt.3 - To Conquer the Grotto

The Shorts and Gaiters Inaugural Adventure took place on June 5th and 6th of 2011. Karsten Klawitter (aka the Island Alpinist) and I have been on many wild and wonderous photoadventures and decided to take two days to explore the heck out of several sites around Southern Vancouver Island.

Come join our intrepid adventurers transitioning to a more shale sedimentary shoreline


as they leave the sandstone behind.


the water carves and creates protected havens for life to flourish


In other areas of no protection it scours clean. Notice how the rainforest encroaches as close as it may.


Storms and seas that toss around logs as if they were nothing. Placing them over carved rock and a hiding place for certain adventurers.


We near another headland...


Safe for now at low tide we explore around the foot of the headland. Faced with a slippery shelf we walk closer, turning a corner to discover...


a way further in and further up




The foot of the dark forest alongside the seashore, but we turned again to the sea and the sun.


Where flowers bloom


and we pause for a moment to contemplate
