September 2011 Adventure to Hope and beyond!

Greetings from the road! I know it's only been a day but I'm going to use the internet when I have access to it and share my travels when I find the time.

Yesterday I stepped out the door in Sechelt BC and caught a few buses, a ferry, and a skytrain to get through Vancouver and the Fraser Valley to end up in Hope BC.

Approximately 217km and 7hrs travel. With some great conversations and people met on the way :)

Let us begin!

Thank you for riding BC Ferries. There isn't much of a choice ;)

For my many years of travelling this route I always know my stop is next to the Vancouver Christ Church Cathedral.

Welcome to Pacific Central Station. From here you can catch trains or coach lines. I went with Greyhound from Vancouver to Hope. I didn't get a good picture of the front because it's all scaffolded and draped for construction.

My bus wasn't going to leave until 1:45pm so it was time to forage. Given the choice between McD's, generic sandwich place, and the Sushi Zone... Sushi Zone wins!

The Fraser River is the longest river in BC and the 10th longest in Canada. Check out the Fraser River wiki for sweet historical, geographical, geological, hydrological awesomeness!

The valley has narrowed significantly. The other side is just over there. We must be nearing Hope where the valleys converge.

Go well my friends!

In Transit - From Sooke River to Botanical Beach

The Shorts and Gaiters Inaugural Adventure took place on June 5th and 6th of 2011. Karsten Klawitter and I have been on many wild and wonderous photoadventures and decided to take two days to explore the heck out of several sites around Southern Vancouver Island.

1 Places I've Wandered - Gonzalez Hill Sunrise
2 Places I've Wandered - Not Sooke Potholes

In Transit - From Sooke River to Botanical Beach
Join us now as we fire up Ruby the Red Subaru and make our way further west towards Botanical Beach. Low tide peaks at 10am so we have a mission and motivation: To get there in time to explore sweet sweet tidal pool action!

Let's hit the road ;)
The Road Ahead

Around corners
Around Corners

Over bridges
Over Bridges

We continue west to find the end of the world
Heading West

We stop for a break to stretch our legs and eat discounted muffins over chasms
Roadtrip

Sit down
Taking a seat and having a bite to eat

and enjoy the view
A View

Hanging Out

Back in the car and some more driving brings us to the parking lot for Botanical Beach
Arrived

where we get our gear out and prepare to search out the sea

At the trail head we met some Europeans who were about to hike the Juan de Fuca trail towards Victoria. Karsten gave them some travel advice as he's rather well versed in that traverse. Then he briefly hung around.
Just Hanging Around

Along the side of the path grow Sword Ferns..
Ferny Goodness

they are springing new life forth for the summer
Ferny Goodness

We passed evidence of new trail work on the old path
New Old Path

A spider just hung around
Spideage

Onward we wended and laughed by bushes of Salmonberry and trees of Red Alder and Douglas Fir
Along the Path

The Red Alder rose above
Alders Up

and then we heard the sea and smelled it's salt sprayed air.. turning a corner a descending stairway beckoned to the beach and beyond at the end of the world.
Arriving at the Beach

See you there soon ;)

In Transit - From hilly viewpoint to spinny spot

From up on my local favourite look out after the sun had set. These were taken after I saw the crows chase the clever hawk.

The crows flew about the Eagle Tree as it was nearing time to go home

Darkness begins to clothe the world

And different options start to come to light

Oh how reflections catch my eye and make me creatively curious

The lights have lit..

While one last chunk of light hits the trees across on Mt.Elphinstone

And I descend towards town past the skate park

Different paths and options always present

So I head right

before going to the other side mid-course to find more paths under the magnolia

Then down past the school

I love the monitor

where I found a spot to spin ;)
